Walktober 2008

18th Annual Walking Weekend Celebration

This year we are excited to announce that Walking WeekendS has become WALKTOBER! The 18th annual event will include free, guided walks as in past years but will also include bike rides and paddles, and promote events associated with our mission.  During the most visually intoxicating time of the year in The Last Green Valley, this will certainly be a month of great celebration.

If you are interested in leading a walk, bike ride, or paddle, please click on this link and fill out the Walk-Bike-Paddle Proposal Form.  This year we are looking for walks dealing with “going green,” Christmas tree production, walks associated with folklore and stories, special walks for kids, and farm tours.  Consider offering a popular walk at more than one time during this year’s event, as there were numerous walks with more than 100 in attendance during 2007.   Because Walktober is such a large undertaking, the completed form must be returned by May 9, 2008.

Is your organization planning an event that is associated with our mission to preserve, interpret and enhance the significant natural, historical, cultural and scenic resources of The Last Green Valley?  If so, we’d love to promote the festivity as part of our month-long celebration of autumn in the region; please click on this link and fill out the Event Proposal Form.  Because there will probably be greater demand than we can accommodate in our print brochure, complete event proposals will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.  However, all events will be listed on our website for Walktober. While we have many photos for walks, we lack a supply of event pictures. If you have a good quality digital image you can share with us, please send it along with the photographer’s clear permission to reproduce it.

Please feel free to copy the forms, and please use one form for each walk or event. You can submit the forms by email to Charlene@tlgv.org, mail to QSHC, 107 Providence Street, Putnam, CT 06260, or fax them to 860-928-2189 as long as they are received by May 9, 2008.

There are 31 days to Walktober!  Think big!  Think celebration!   Think outdoor fun!
